On Saturday, January 19, 2008 approximately 290 Health Science students from six schools (Bell,
Chiefl and, Dixie, Ft. White, Columbia, and Gainesville) attended the Health occupations Students of America (HOSA) Region 2 Spring Conference and Competition event hosted this year at Chiefland High School.

The HOSA Students competed in a number of Health Science related events, ranging from Medical Terminology to Forensic Medicine. The Dixie County HOSA students excelled in their events both individually and as teams. The following Dixie County students competed and won in their categories:

EMT Team – Mandy Cannon & James Blacketer - 1st Place
Medical Reading Team – Kiya Schrader, Cristy Brannin, Ashley Abney – 1st Place
Nursing Assistant – Kristen Weeks – 1st Place
Sports Medicine – Jessica Chewning – 1st Place
CPR/First Aid Team – Kayla Clemens & Sarah Lubin – 2nd Place
CPR /First Aid Team – Casey Besterman & Shelby Herring – 3rd Place
Forensic Medicine Team – Kathleen Chavous & Katie O’Neal – 3rd Place
Medical Terminology – Melissa Gray – 5th Place
