For nearly 28 years, Joyce Davis has served Dixie County residents as Tax Collector. Her co-workers gave her a surprise retirement party in the courtroom on December 18 at 2 p.m. to show their appreciation. Davis briefly spoke and thanked everyone, especially her co-workers, for giving her the opportunity to serve as Tax Collector. “It has always been an honor,” Davis said while wiping away the tears. “I have loved it and I’m ready to retire.” Before everyone enjoyed cake and other delicious treats, retired Dixie County Judge Marshall Clements spoke very highly of Davis and gave her a plaque in honor of her service. According to Clements, Davis has conducted herself with integrity, honesty, and has always been courteous to the people who come into her office, whether they are visiting the area or members of the community. “She has always been sweet and tries to keep people working for her and for our citizens here in Dixie County. That is what she has always been noted for,” Clements said. |
